Eligibility for renewal of Guangdong-Hong Kong dual license plates:
Renewing vehicle license plates for Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau is now much more convenient than before. According to the latest facilitation measures, the core eligibility requirements for renewal have been significantly simplified. However, specific eligibility requirements will vary depending on the type of license plate (e.g., investment-type or talent-type) .
A quick overview of eligibility requirements for renewing vehicle license plates from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Renewal requirements for special license plate types
1. Qualification, talent, and high-tech enterprise indicators: These indicators will be uniformly adjusted to be valid indefinitely, and there is no need to submit materials such as academician certificates, talent cards, and high-tech certifications again when renewing them.
2. Donation-based quotas: Overseas Chinese, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who have donated more than RMB 3 million since the reform and opening up, or social organizations that have donated more than RMB 10 million, can apply for one quota for a commercial vehicle that travels between Hong Kong and Macao and the mainland, which is valid indefinitely.
There are a few things to note before proceeding.
1. Distinguish between "renewal" and "annual inspection": Renewal (permit card extension) updates the cross-border travel qualification; while "annual inspection" is a safety and technical inspection of the vehicle itself. These two are independent procedures and both need to be completed for the vehicle to be legally on the road.
2. Pay attention to the processing time: It is recommended to apply for renewal within 60 days before the expiry date of the permit card. Although it is possible to renew after the expiry date, it will affect the normal passage of the vehicle through customs.
3. Convenient processing channels: You can now process your application online through the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department Traffic Management Bureau's website (which supports two-way express delivery), or you can go to a service point equipped with a self-service machine (such as some service halls in Guangzhou and Zhuhai) for immediate processing.
4. Fees and Subsequent Procedures: The renewal fee is RMB 240. If you choose online two-way express delivery, an additional express fee will apply. After receiving the new permit card, remember to promptly update the registration with customs, border inspection, and relevant Hong Kong and Macau departments to ensure all system information is synchronized.
